How to Change the Aspect Ratio of a Video in Videospan

Videospan makes it easy to change the aspect ratio of any video directly inside the Full Editor.
This allows you to tailor your content for different platforms — for example, 16:9 for YouTube and LinkedIn, or 9:16 for Instagram Reels and Stories.

When you export the new version, Videospan automatically creates all of the templated outputs in the updated aspect ratio — no extra steps required.

Why Change the Aspect Ratio?

Each platform prefers a specific video format. Adjusting the aspect ratio ensures your video fits perfectly wherever you share it.

PlatformRecommended Aspect Ratio
LinkedIn / YouTube16:9 (Landscape)
Instagram Feed1:1 (Square)
Instagram Reels / TikTok / Stories9:16 (Vertical)
Branded Playback / Website Embeds16:9 (Landscape)

When you change your document’s aspect ratio, Videospan automatically reflows captions, overlays, and other branded elements so your video stays perfectly aligned with your brand standards.

Step-by-Step: Changing the Aspect Ratio

1. Open the Video in the Full Editor

From your Collection, select the post or response you want to modify.
Click Full Editor to open the video editing workspace.

The Full Editor gives you access to advanced tools like aspect ratio, overlays, text, and layout adjustments.

2. Select the Canvas

Inside the Full Editor:

  • Click the background canvas (not the video or overlay layers).

  • Once selected, the Document Settings panel will appear in the top-left corner of the editor.

3. Change the Document Aspect Ratio

In the Document Settings panel:

  1. Find the Aspect Ratio dropdown.

  2. Choose your preferred ratio:

    • 16:9 (Landscape)

    • 9:16 (Vertical)

    • 1:1 (Square)

    • 4:5 (Portrait)

    • or a Custom Ratio if desired.

  3. The canvas will instantly adjust to the new dimensions.

4. Reframe and Adjust Content

After updating the aspect ratio:

  • Reposition your subject within the new frame.

  • Adjust text, overlays, or B-roll elements to fit the layout.

Your edits are non-destructive — you can revert to the original layout at any time.

5. Export a New Version

Once your video looks right:

  1. Click Export.

  2. Choose Save as New Version.

Videospan will:

  • Save a new, version-controlled copy of your video.

  • Automatically generate all templated outputs (intro/outro bumpers, overlays, captions, and branded elements) in the new aspect ratio.

You do not need to manually reapply templates — they are automatically recreated for every exported version.

What Happens Behind the Scenes

When you export a new version:

  • Videospan adjusts the project canvas to match your chosen ratio.

  • All brand templates dynamically adapt to fit that layout.

  • New templated outputs are automatically rendered — ensuring your branding, typography, and colors stay consistent across every format.
