How to Select Your Camera, Microphone, and Use the Positioning Guide in Videospan

When recording a video response or post in Videospan, you can customize your setup for the best possible recording quality.

You can:

  • Choose your camera, microphone, or other input devices.

  • Use the Positioning Guide (silhouette icon) to frame yourself correctly before recording.

⚙️ Selecting Your Camera and Microphone

1. Open the Recording Experience

When you start a new Response or Post, Videospan will open the in-browser recording interface.

2. Open Settings

  • Click the ⚙️ Settings (gear icon) in the top-right corner of the recording screen.

  • A device settings panel will appear where you can select your preferred inputs.

3. Choose Your Devices

From the dropdown menus, you can select:

  • Camera: Choose between your webcam, external camera, or virtual camera.

  • Microphone: Pick your preferred audio input (USB mic, headset, built-in mic, etc.).

Tip: If you’re using an external USB microphone or webcam, connect it before opening the recorder so it appears in the dropdown.

4. Test Your Setup

Once you’ve selected your devices:

  • Check the live preview window to confirm your camera feed.

  • Speak into your microphone

  • Adjust lighting or positioning as needed before recording.

? Using the Positioning Guide

1. Open the Guide

Click the ? Silhouette icon in the top-right corner of the recording screen.

This opens the Positioning Guide overlay — a semi-transparent outline that helps you position yourself correctly in frame.

2. Align Yourself in the Frame

The silhouette will guide you on:

  • Framing: Keep your eyes near the top third of the frame.

  • Centering: Align your face and shoulders inside the guide shape.

  • Distance: Stay close enough for clear audio, but far enough to include shoulders and headroom.

Proper positioning helps ensure consistent framing and professional-looking results across all responses.

3. Hide the Guide When Ready

Once you’re properly positioned:

  • Click the silhouette icon again to hide the guide.

  • The guide won’t appear in your final recording — it’s only for setup.
