How to Edit and Reorder B-Roll in a Montage

After respondents upload B-roll clips or images — or after a template automatically creates a montage — you can easily adjust the order, timing, and layout of those visuals in Videospan’s Editor.

The B-roll editor gives you full creative control while keeping all videos consistent with your brand’s approved template.

 What You Can Do

With Videospan’s B-roll editing tools, you can:

  • Reorder clips to control the story flow.

  • Trim or shorten each clip for pacing.

  • Remove any unwanted assets.

  • Adjust overlay timing relative to the speaker.

  • Preview the final montage before regenerating the video.

All of your edits stay within the brand’s defined template — intros, outros, overlays, and captions remain automatically aligned.

Step-by-Step: Editing B-Roll in the Editor

1. Open the Post

From your Collections page, open the post that includes the B-roll montage you’d like to update.
Click B-Roll access collected or uploaded B-ROll.

2. Edit B-Roll Items

Select Edit on the B-Roll item. For images, you will have access to image editor. For Videos, you will have access to the video editor.

Make desired edits and click export.

3. Reorder Clips

Drag and drop any clip to change the playback order.
The montage will automatically update to reflect your new sequence.

Tip: Place your strongest visuals early in the montage for higher viewer engagement.

4. Apply To Template

After making adjustments:

  1. Click Template Videos and select a template with B-Roll Enabled.

  2. Apply the Template

Example Workflow

Let’s say you collected a main interview and five B-roll clips.
You can:

  1. Start with a wide office shot.

  2. Follow with product close-ups.

  3. End with team or logo imagery.
By reordering clips and trimming for rhythm, you turn raw uploads into a cohesive, story-driven video — all within minutes.

Best Practices

  • Keep clips between 2–5 seconds each for smooth pacing.

  • Use a mix of wide and close-up shots for visual variety.

  • Avoid over-trimming; allow enough time for natural transitions.

  • Preview with audio enabled to ensure the montage complements the speaker’s tone.

  • Regenerate after every major change to confirm quality in the final render.
